General information about tourmaline 

Tourmaline is found around the world and has a variety of colors: Green, black, blue, pink, yellow, bicolor, sometimes tri-color and many other hues of each color, which make tourmaline a special type of gemstones. 

The name “Tourmaline” reflects this multicolored splendor.  It comes from the Sri Lankan word turmali, which can be translated as “stone with mixed colors” or “gem pebbles.”  

Elbaite  is a sodium lithium aluminium borosilicate hydroxide mineral that belongs to the Tourmaline Group of minerals. The following crystals belong to this mineral, Indicolite, Paraiba, Pink, Purple, Rubellite, Verdelite and Watermelon Tourmaline. 

Dravite is a rare brown complex sodium magnesium iron boro-aluminium silicate

Schorl is a black sodium iron aluminium boro-silicate hydroxide.

Uvite is a rare green calcium iron magnesium aluminium boron-silicate hydroxide.

Tourmaline is a fairly common mineral, but gem quality crystals are relatively rare, and found almost exclusively in Pegmatite. Numerous mines exist whose primary purpose is finding gem-quality Tourmaline.

Tourmaline are found in Brazil, but they may also come from Afghanistan, Australia, Madagascar, Mozambique, and the United States.
